  General information about Budapest

Budapest has several treasures which can be ranked among the bests. But its biggest treasure is undoubtedly its beautiful location.

The Castle Hill in Buda and the atmospheric public buildings of Pest lie on either side of a stretch of the Danube crossed by a group of bridges. We can enjoy the panorama from several places:from the terrace of the Castle Hill, the Sikló /funicular/ ,the top of the Gellért Hill, the railings of Margit Bridge, even the dome of St. Stephen Basilica.

The night has its special charm when the lights of the Chain Bridge are turned on and the spotlights make the beautiful buildings magnificent.Sights and experiences are available in full measure, enough to last for weeks.Important historical buildings are a must.Among these are the Castle District, Matthias Church, the Parliament, Heroes' Square and its surroundings, the Opera House, the Basilica and the Synagogue.

There are other things that must be seen:the Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum and National Gallery. There are also several unique collections that offer special pleasure to those who know about the subjects, such as the Stamp Museum, the Telephone Museum or the Flag Museum. Those who visit Budapest will discover the famous districts, such as the inner city and Andrássy Avenue in Pest and the Buda Castle in Buda. There are about a thousand historic monuments and over two hundred museums and galleries. So there is always plenty more to see.

Those who wish to get closer to nature can choose from several designated hiking trails in the Buda hills or visit the large city parks, such as those on Margaret Island, in City Park or on the Hajógyári Island. In Budapest, visitors can enjoy the famous Hungarian hospitality every day of the week.If you haven't experienced this personally, now is the time!
