Description: This small ,attractive town,the center of Serbian settlement in Hungary.Szentendre has been renowned as an artists' colony since the early 1920s,and it is now a tourist center.The Serbs who fled from the Turks,settled here in 16th and 17th centuries.
The Pozarevacka church,built in 1773,has a beautiful icon wall in Byzatine style.Few hundred meters further is Fo tér/Main Squar/ and its centerpiece,the Plague Monument.The icons,goldsmith's work and other treasures of the Serb Orthodox Ecclesiastical Art Museum complete the display of the Serb churches.Szentendre has several museums to offer for visitors.Most amongst the Margit Kovács Ceramic Collection with its charming figures is one of the most popular.The Baby Museum is a great experience for children,the National Wine Museum for the lovers of good wine as well as the Museum of Transport's rich collection of public transport vehicles attracts the tourists.The Hungarian Open-Air Ethnographical Museum is well worth visiting.The museum is situated 3 km from Szentendre and can be reached by bus. |
